Auto Criuse Starfire

The 2008 Starfire builds upon the successes of its predecessors and introduces new refinements and innovations for the discerning motorcaravanner.

This compact vehicle is a joy to drive and is a superb example of innovation at work. It takes advantage of the new Peugeot Boxer Cab & HDi engine, providing it with more than enough muscle for trips along steep hills and winding roads.

The Starfire provides a selection of new improvements whilst retaining the symmetrical layout that has made the vehicle one of our best sellers over the past 9 years. At the rear half of the vehicle, the handy kitchen layout incorporates the sink and cooker unit which are provided with an abundance of light, from the rear window and skylight arrangement. The living area occupies the entire front half of the vehicle and is defined by a double bunk seat.

If you are looking for a relatively small (18’4 long) but spacious low profile coachbuilt you should give Autocruise Starfire 2004 or later a look. The fittings are top of the range, so it is not one of the cheaper wagons, but its 3 gas+1 electric stove, its deep space under one bench seat for wet storage and its innovative swing-wall toilet/shower just have to be seen. It is a joy to use. There is additional storage ‘hidden’ under the carpet and the overcab locker is capacious. The bench seats pull out easily to make a comfortable 4’6 x 6’9 bed amid ship. Both cab seats turn to seat six round the free standing table cleverly stored in its own locker, not in the wardrobe. (The latter is accessible from the toilet/shower.) Extractor fan over the rear kitchen, stainless steel sink and NO doorwell to fall into make this area tight but safe. The nearby fridge provides necessary workspace with drinks cabinet just to hand. There are 3 types of lighting in the lounge/bedroom. Rear steadies are provided but not needed.
Grumbles? There have to be some. The outside access to the underbench storage is too narrow/shallow. Some of the outside mouldings seem to be designed to catch dirt and make washing more difficult. The TV has no home, an inner mosquito door is not an option and the cigarette lighter point is not independent of the ignition. The caravan-style water loading takes some getting used to. The bigger 2.2 engine is worth it. There is over 600 kg left for pay load.
